The municipal administration, in recognizing the merit of Corrado Sorrentino for the gesture of great altruism , also makes a reflection on the condition of the rescue at sea borne by the coastal municipal administrations: «Yesterday's episode, which without the intervention of Corrado it could have ended in tragedy - explains mayor Andrea Abis - it demonstrates once again the need for the Regional Civil Protection to make a leap in quality in service planning, which must be planned with other criteria and shared with the Municipalities. Instead, it seems to me that the Region's effort has now been confined solely to identifying the financial distribution between the Municipalities. In addition to an evident under-funding of the service, there is a lack of a General Plan that highlights the regional coastal areas most dangerous for bathing and shares with the Municipalities the typology of rescue, rescue and assistance services, which may be different and diversified depending on the depending on the area of reference - states the mayor - The mayors, responsible for municipal civil protection, will have to organize and implement the activity efficiently through their municipal services".
The lifeguard service will start on the weekends of the second half of July and will continue throughout August until covering the first weekends of September: «The display of information signs on the beach regarding the lack of a lifeguard service at sea represents a necessary requirement but certainly not enough – continues Mayor Andrea Abis -. We have a greater duty, that of guaranteeing the maximum possible safety on our beaches through the concept of "care and protection of the bather". The Municipality will soon meet Sorrentino for the delivery of the plaque. The swimmer will be involved in a working group with the Marine Protected Area and the Port Authority.
