Tons of waste and a cemetery of burned cars: the shock flight over the Roma camp on State Road 387
The latest fire on Tuesday evening: the Selargius area near the road connecting Parteolla is a gigantic ecological bomb that explodedTons of special waste. Dozens – over a hundred, for sure – of burned car carcasses whose provenance is uncertain. And fires, almost daily. The last one yesterday : tires were burned and only the intervention of the firefighters, yet another in that place, prevented further spread. But the black smoke, and the dioxin, traveled through the air.
In common newspapers, the Roma camp near the State Road 387, in the territory of Selargius and a stone's throw from that of Settimo, can be defined as an "ecological bomb" . But it exploded and the effects of the explosion continue to expand . The images taken with a drone this morning demonstrate this: the scenario is disturbing.
The fires and their consequences are well known to the residents of the area, who almost daily have to deal with clouds of black smoke and their stench. As is well known, in that area people live – about a hundred inhabitants, about thirty children – in conditions of environmental and social degradation beyond the limits of tolerability. The mayors of Selargius Gigi Concu and Settimo San Pietro, Gigi Puddu, are perfectly aware of the situation. Last May they discussed it at a summit in the Prefecture: it emerged that one million euros would be available for the cleanup – not much – but the priority is the relocation of the occupants.
"This," warned the mayor of Selargius, "is a problem that cannot be solved by a Municipality. This is a situation of great importance, especially social, that must be addressed by the Region and the State: it is dramatic and full of risks." The meeting in Piazza Palazzo had become urgent after the flames, set for who knows what reason, had reached the State Road.
The same road traveled every day by thousands of motorists who move between Cagliari, hinterland and Parteolla. From there you can sense the environmental disaster. A view from above removes all doubt.
