The “Arcadia” trial is coming to a close in the court of Sassari. In the proceedings, which began in 2014, 17 people are accused (one has since died) of subversive association with the purpose of terrorism and subversion of the democratic order.

Today's hearing, before the panel chaired by Massimo Zaniboni, with Giancosimo Mura on the side, with the popular jury, saw the testimony of Erik Madau, spokesman for A Manca pro s'Indipendèntzia, one of the two clubs that, according to the accusations, would have acted as a "public shield for those who joined the subversive association".

The witness answered the defense's questions by retracing the history of the organization of the independentist left, emphasizing the party's political line. And this was precisely what was claimed by Madau, reports the Libertade association, "of Marxist Leninist inspiration, and aimed at affirming the right of self-determination of the Sardinian people until their independence". The witness emphasized how all this involved "tactically leading the Sardinian nation (in the sense of this term as defined by Stalin) to arrive at full awareness and consciousness until the conditions were created to carry out a referendum to affirm the will of the Sardinian people to form their own independent republic".

Manca's activity, he concludes, "was public and never hidden and did not theorize the armed struggle as a tool to achieve the liberation of Sardinia." The next hearing will be held on May 5, in which other witnesses for the defense of the accused will be heard.
