Assault last night at the emergency room in Sassari against health workers . A man was brought into the facility, around 2, because he was in a state of confusion and, after a few minutes of waiting, he pulled out a pattadesa and pointed it at doctors and nurses .
At that point the tension rose and a general stampede ensued while the man waved the switchblade at those present .
The guards at the entrance also tried, but the agitated man continued to threaten everyone. Even when the police officers intervened and, unable to calm him down, they immobilized him with a taser and then took him away.
The unions Cgil, Cisl and Uil in a joint statement express "solidarity and closeness to the emergency room staff" and "take this opportunity to underline how the phenomenon of hospital attacks is increasing in a worrying way: in the last 5 years in Italy they have increased by 38% . Now, net of the case in question, disorganization and waiting times for a visit are the main causes that fuel the phenomenon. While waiting for the situation to improve and net of the sanctions to be applied in these cases, in our opinion it is necessary to strengthen the presence of the police forces during the most sensitive times, such as in the evening and at night. At the emergency room in Sassari we understand that the service is currently active only in the morning , and in a facility far from the emergency room".
