Sardinia is the region where the elderly are vaccinated the least against the flu . On the island , the flu vaccination coverage of Sardinians over 65 barely reaches 37.3% against the 56.7% of the national average .
This is what emerges from the analysis of the Research Office of Confartigianato Imprese Sardegna , which examined the data released by the Ministry of Health for 2022-2023.
The ranking is opened by Umbria with 68.7%, followed by Basilicata with 66.3%. In last place, as mentioned, the Island preceded by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano with 38.7%.
The data also shows that only 20.2% of the total Italian population is vaccinated against the flu . "The elderly and frail must be vaccinated, they must do it for their safety but also for the protection of the entire population" says Giovanni Antonio Mellino , president in Sardinia and national vice president of Anap, the National Association of the Elderly and Retired of Confartigianato. "With the crisis in Sardinian healthcare, for a flu, it is no longer tolerable to congest clinics, engage GPs and block emergency rooms as well as engage family members".
"After the controversies over Covid vaccines - added Mellino - there is reluctance towards vaccination; now it is necessary to reassure the population about the safety of these vaccines , also because any adverse reactions are well known and manageable. The 'simple' flu is not as trivial as many people think and there are still too many people who have been hospitalized in intensive care and too many deaths: we must avoid these very serious epilogues".
