After months of intense investigations by the investigative unit of the Oristano Forestry Corps and the Samugheo Forestry Station , the arsonist responsible for the fire that broke out on 28 July 2022 on the outskirts of the Asuni village was identified.
It is a man residing in the town of Oristano and on whom heavy circumstantial elements weigh.
During the fire, the flames , fed and driven by the strong wind, favored by the high temperatures of a hot summer day, had progressed quickly up to touching the houses of the town .
The extinguishing operations, which lasted about three hours, had involved thirteen firefighters who, thanks to the use of no less than 5 tankers and the collaboration of several volunteers, had managed to limit the fire close to the houses, preventing the flames from spreading into the surrounding lands.
The results of the investigative activity led to the issuing, by the GIP of the Court of Oristano, of a personal precautionary measure order against the suspect , a measure carried out by the CFVA agents.
The crime of arson, regulated by art. 423 of the Penal Code, provides for the penalty of imprisonment from 3 to 7 years for anyone who causes a fire. Furthermore, the art. 2043 of the Civil Code establishes that any intentional or negligent act which causes unjust damage to others obliges the person who committed the act to compensate for the damage .
