An electrical blackout or a malfunction of the line could be the cause of the death of the one-month-old baby, found lifeless yesterday in a heated crib in Bari , next to the church of San Giovanni Battista. According to what Don Marco Simone said, "a week ago we were without electricity. Enel tried to fix it, to repair the fault at that time because the Christmas holidays were coming. They told us they would be back and I know they have been doing work for a few days".

The priest was in the parish when the child was found. "I had finished celebrating a funeral rite and I noticed the commotion," he says, "I approached and saw the child wrapped in a blanket and taken away." "I'm sorry because that cradle has saved children on other occasions. It wasn't like that yesterday and this leaves us perplexed and saddened," he continues. "We never wanted a tragedy like this to happen," he concludes.

Something went wrong, starting with the message that should have been sent when the baby arrived in the crib. "My phone didn't ring," explained the parish priest of the church, Don Antonio Ruccia , whose cell phone is directly connected to a special alarm device. The technical investigations ordered by the Bari Prosecutor's Office will clarify what happened. In the meantime, the crib and the room where it is kept have been seized . The autopsy on the newborn's body, scheduled for today, has been postponed.
