"I was bringing her breakfast in bed, I saw a text message from another boy on her cell phone, I took the knife that was on the tray and killed her. I didn't premeditate."

Thus Mark Antony Samson, 23 , confessed in a dramatic interrogation lasting over five hours to the murder of his ex-girlfriend Ilaria Sula, 22 .

The girl was killed on the morning of March 26 after spending the night at her ex's house. Samson explained that the 22-year-old had gone to his apartment on via Homs, in Rome's African quarter, on the evening of the 25th to return some clothes to him. But, according to her ex's story, she stayed late and preferred to sleep there to avoid taking public transport .

The two had recently ended , according to the boy, a relationship that had lasted for several months with ups and downs. What triggered Samson's fury was a message from another boy seen on Ilaria Sula's phone, while he was bringing her breakfast in bed. On the breakfast tray there was a knife, the one with which he attacked her and stabbed her several times: "I attacked her from behind, stabbing her in the neck" , he said, denying that the murder was premeditated and speaking of a "jealous fit" .

Samson also stated that he had done it all by himself and availed himself of the right not to answer the questions of the investigating judge about his role and the possible presence of his parents in the house : the young man said that he had loaded the body into the car, after having closed it in a suitcase , and abandoned it in a ravine. He, alone, would have cleaned up the crime scene. And he would have thrown the weapon in a dumpster together with a bag containing a carpet and the sieves used to clean the room from traces of blood.

Investigators will now have to evaluate the reliability of this story by also analyzing the girl's computer in light of the fact that the cell phone, thrown into a manhole by her ex, has not yet been found. The parents' position remains under investigation.

The prosecutors charged him with aggravated voluntary homicide and concealment of a corpse .
