"Children are our primary goal. Making them happy is our mission, that's why all our events are free" , says Paola Moriconi, Vice President of Vab Sinnai , a non-profit civil protection organization, serving the community with important and increasingly shareable projects, such as Vabbo Natale.
"The Vab Sinnai Association is an Association committed, both at local and regional level, and at national level, to Civil Protection activities, protection and enhancement of the territory and the environment. It boasts a decade of experience in carrying out various activities of significant social impact and in planning and carrying out events and demonstrations of various kinds as foreseen by the activities indicated in our association statute" , continues the Vice President.
The story of Vabbo Natale
This is a great event that has grown in a few years and in 2024 it was included among the events of Sardinia and promoted by the Department of Tourism, Crafts and Commerce of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia. A valuable challenge that presents itself
with a rich calendar full of events organized until December 22nd.
The birth of this event dates back to 2018, when from an idea by Paola Moriconi, an attempt was made to promote the activities of the Vab Sinnai involving, above all, the younger generations. It was the first time that the Santa Barbara square in Sinnai was decorated for the holidays with a tree about five meters high, built with plastic bottles by the Vab team, together with a small Santa Claus house also made with recycled materials. Entertainment shows for the little ones were held here. Since then, the event has continued, albeit with difficulty, to grow in its notoriety as well as its ability to attract an increasingly varied public.
And if in 2019 we moved to Piazza Santa Vittoria with a tree created from car tires, in 2020 we tried to overcome the pandemic with a digital Vabbo Natale. In 2021, to recover the social contact that had been so missed, the event became itinerant for three weekends in December, also wandering through the hamlets of Solanas and Tasonis.
2022 marks a change: the Vab headquarters moves to the Sinnai Industrial Zone and, right here, they plan to organize the new event. A bold project that determines an impressive setup made of gazebos, a more magical Santa Claus house, stage, refreshment and play areas, the association's infopoint with practical demonstrations of its activities and, surprisingly, the numerous participation of hobbyists. This shared plan led, in just three days, to hundreds of visits, determining an enormous success that is confirmed and surpassed in 2023.
"The event proved to be an eagerly awaited and particularly impactful appointment in relation to the valorization of tourism and culture, the accommodation and hospitality industry, commerce, food and wine and catering in the area" , highlights Paola Moriconi.
In fact, last year the attendance was almost 10 thousand thanks also to better displays, a living nativity scene, the
collaboration of schools in the hinterland and other volunteer associations. The entire island has responded to this call of solidarity and nothing can be done but to amaze even at the end of 2024.
As the slogan of the event states: "Because for us the happiness of a child is priceless", emphatically highlighting the primary mission of the spirit with which this Christmas machine comes to life.
The Vabbo Natale 2024 program
One might wonder why a Civil Protection association tries its hand at social events and the answer is quickly given. The entire project allows the team to improve, to incentivize its activities and, above all, to enhance the need for them in the eyes of the public, young and old.
The event will light up this December with the presence of numerous attractions such as the House of Santa Claus and his Elves, the Nativity Scene, the Christmas markets made with wooden structures with a scenographic impact and carefully decorated with coordinated decorations and lighting. The intense days will be characterized by the diffusion of themes that will lead back to the
deep identity of the island: a majestic Christmas Tree, educational paths dedicated to nursery schools and primary schools with training and information workshops on good civil protection practices, entertainment provided by various folk groups, local choirs and guests from the various provinces of Sardinia, up to an exhibition of the ancient traditional clothes of Sinnai.
"There will be a lot of solidarity through a food drive (THE Christmas miracle) for the neediest families, the support of numerous associations present with their stands, which deal with pet therapy, multiple sclerosis, support for the children of the Microcitemico of Cagliari and many associations that protect our furry friends.
New this year, for the first time in Sinnai, an eco-ice skating rink open every day. Everything can be visited for free"
, Paola Moriconi enthusiastically tells us.
So until Sunday, December 22nd, 5000 m2 of space will be dedicated to the festivities to be able to experience them together in magic and solidarity.
