The project to promote the extraordinary heritage of the Romanesque churches of Sardinia kicks off at Alghero airport. The day before yesterday, the terminal hosted experts in tourism, economics and culture in a round table on the theme “ Romanesque in Sardinia. Opportunities and development through new tourist itineraries ”.

In the audience, in the main hall of the Alghero port, representatives of the institutions and military authorities, mayors and administrators of the municipalities of the area, tour operators and publishers, tourist guides and university and school teachers, all involved in the development of projects aimed at promoting a precious resource, unique in its kind thanks to the characteristics that distinguish it from the rest of Europe.

On stage, sharing experiences, visions, points of view and proposals, Antonello Figus, president of the Fondazione Sardegna Isola del Romanico); Nicoletta Usai, associate professor of History of Medieval Art at UniCa; Anna Trono, Chair Commission International Geographical Union on Geography of Governance; Alicia Padin Buceta, president of the Asociación Amigos del Románico of Madrid; Elisabetta Gola, vice-rector for Communication and Image at UniCa; and Mauro Quidacciolu, director of the Diocesan Office for Ecclesiastical Heritage of the Archdiocese of Sassari. With them, to open the proceedings, the CEO of the airports of Alghero and Olbia Silvio Pippobello and the Chief of Staff of the Department of Tourism, Crafts and Commerce of the Sardinia Region Carla Medau, to recall the commitment of the Region and the Sardinian airports in important initiatives, such as this one in collaboration with Sogeaal Alghero Airport, aimed at the deseasonalization of tourist flows through the management companies of the Sardinian airports.

The starting point of the discussion , moderated by the journalist Celestino Tabasso , was the potential of the Romanesque churches found throughout the island , testimonies of the history, art and architecture of the period between the 11th and 13th centuries: not only a valuable historical, artistic and architectural heritage but also an extraordinary added value to the tourist offering.

At the end of the round table, the exhibition dedicated to the Romanesque Churches of Sardinia was inaugurated, which will be exhibited to the public simultaneously in the main halls of the airports of Alghero and Olbia, from 11 to 31 December 2024,
