"The increase in Tari depends on a budget not approved by us. I don't want to put the blame on others, but it's a fact."

The municipal councilor for Urban Ecology of Cagliari, Luisa Giua Marassi, tries to nip in the bud the controversy that is being triggered following the delivery of the tax bills with the amounts of the waste tax to the homes of the Cagliaritans: despite years of promises, they are increasingly burdensome. And the citizens are not having it.

The councilor explains the reasons for the increase: «It should be noted that the increase that the people of Cagliari have received is based on a budget that was not approved by our administration (which took office in July) and on which the regulatory framework prevented us from intervening», is the distancing, «this does not mean that we intend to pass the responsibilities on to others but it is a fact».

But what has increased the costs? The weight of the "waste collection and disposal service (to be clear, the ongoing contract) has undoubtedly increased, first of all due to the general increase in prices (fuel, supplies and especially personnel). And this is independent of the will of any administration".

Furthermore, adds Giua Marassi, «in recent years the cost of the current contract has increased due to the addition of some additional services that were meant to temper the door-to-door system (such as the ecological bus and the ecological islands) and other services that are necessary or considered as such».

According to the councilor , "the application of the punctual rate for dry waste has allowed virtuous citizens not to have a further increase for deliveries exceeding 2 per month. While those who delivered more dry waste than the established limit had to bear even significant increases."

The Zedda administration, according to the member of the Council, "immediately got to work to implement all the actions and measures that can allow, on the one hand, to improve the service and, on the other, to contain as much as possible the almost physiological increase of the Tari". An example? "Increase the reward for even higher percentages of differentiation (now from 26% we have reached 76.5%), make the tariff really punctual with effective payment based on the dry waste delivered, bring out total evaders who deliver irregularly (a municipal task force is being set up to cross-reference data and approve a memorandum of understanding with the Guardia di Finanza) and combat waste abandonment with greater information and education of citizens".

The abandoned waste weighs for two million: «Eradicating the plague alone would allow us to save almost 2 million a year».
