" A crucial opportunity to start a concrete dialogue on the measures to be adopted to safeguard jobs and relaunch the local economy ": this is how the general secretary of the Cisl, Pier Luigi Ledda , spoke today of the visit of the Minister of Made in Italy Adolfo Urso scheduled for tomorrow, Friday 27 December in Portovesme.
The arrival at the plant is scheduled for 11, with the minister ready to meet the unions accompanied by the Minister of Labor Elvira Calderone, the Undersecretary of State for Mimit Fausta Bergamotto and the President of the Region Alessandra Todde . The mayors of Sulcis are also present at the gates.
Everything revolves around the stoppage ordered by Portovesme srl , a subsidiary of the Swiss multinational Glencore, on the zinc line starting from 20 December and therefore a week ahead of the end-of-year date announced at the Mimit.
«Last December 20, Portovesme Srl, a company of the Glencore group – the Ministry reported, recalling the presence of the minister in front of the gates of the metallurgical factory – unilaterally ordered the total shutdown of the zinc line in advance of the December 31 date, previously announced at the Mimit table and without waiting, as agreed, for the evaluations of the technical mission of the Ministry and of any possible buyers available to maintain production. A decision that the Mimit defined as “unacceptable” and which clearly violates what was agreed at the Table of December 5 with all the social and institutional parties».
Today, the CISL spoke of a "dramatic" situation, with 1,200 workers facing these end-of-year days in total uncertainty. "We need concrete answers," Ledda said, "and immediate interventions. The workers involved in this crisis, with their families, risk paying the highest price and it is essential that the Government act decisively to guarantee a future for this territory."
