The closed maternity ward at Lanusei hospital shakes up local politics. Two and a half years of paralysis, motivated by a lack of personnel, are more than enough to raise the tone of the debate.
Carlo Marcia, provincial coordinator of the Reformers, intervenes on the case: «We can no longer accept that our communities are deprived of such a crucial service. The reopening of the Lanusei birth center is not only a health priority, but an act of respect for our territories. The Reformers will continue to fight for this right to be restored».
In the nursery with limited staff, births can only be given in cases of extreme urgency: "An essential service like this - accuses Marcia - cannot be suspended indefinitely. Ogliastra families deserve quality maternal and child health care, close and accessible: it is a fundamental right that must be guaranteed to everyone, without geographical discrimination".
