Misadventure for a French yachtsman, saved by the Olbia Coast Guard after the 12-meter catamaran he was sailing on sank in the stretch of sea in front of Capo Comino, on the coast of Siniscola.

He himself raised the alarm, around 3 pm yesterday: he noticed that the hull was taking on water and launched the may-day . The operations room of the Coast Guard sent the patrol boat specialized in search and rescue, moored at the port of La Caletta, to the area and also diverted the merchant ships Histria Dione and Cinzia A, which were about 20 miles from the alert. At the same time, a vehicle from the Poggio Renatico Air Force took flight to facilitate the search for the shipwrecked man.

At 16:40, after receiving an update on the position of the vessel in difficulty, the intervention of the motor vessel Leevsten, which was sailing approximately 5 miles from the catamaran, was requested. The same vessel located the French yachtsman shortly after: he had abandoned the sinking catamaran and taken refuge on the life raft. He was transferred to the Coast Guard motor vessel and at 18:30 he arrived safe and sound at the port of La Caletta .

The military is investigating to determine the causes of the sinking of the catamaran, which rested on a seabed 800 meters deep.
