From Bonarcado to conquer the ice of the far North to plant the Sardinian flag and wave the banner of the Montiferrino municipality. This is the new extreme undertaking of the deputy mayor of Bonarcado Stefania Piredda who, with other Sardinian travel companions, has reached the Greenland ice cap, the second largest frozen area in the world.
Piredda, a lover of extreme sports, together with Sergio di Capoterra, Lello di San Gavino and Efisio di Senorbì succeeded in the feat starting on foot from Sisimiut, the small port village in the south-west of Greenland, to arrive after 8 days at the small village of Kangerlussuaq. An exciting and tiring journey, from the first stage of the Russel Glacier the adventurers overcame snowstorms, ice, rain and wind to arrive after about ten days at the Ice Cap. The Arctic Circle Trail, with its approximately 210 km, represents a difficult and tiring excursion.
"Among the strong emotions for the feat just concluded, surrounded by suggestive and unusual landscapes and with the awareness of having to now face the long journey back, with great pride they waved the flag of Sardinia, symbol of their roots", explains the mayor Annalisa Mele. "You are a pride for all of us and thank you for always bringing Sardinia with you. We are waiting for you back home", concludes Mele.
