It was him, Marco Raduano, after his repentance, who provided investigators with important elements to reconstruct the dynamics of his escape from the Nuoro prison of Badu 'e Carros, in February 2023, and of his time on the run until February of the following year, which ended with his arrest in Corsica. Today, 14 arrests were made between Sardinia, Corsica and Veneto among the alleged supporters: a prison police officer was also arrested.
The now ex-boss of the Gargano mafia recounted his three-day stay in a cellar in Nuoro after his daring escape: a hiding place that was not included in the plans, because some events had “disturbed” the intervention of his accomplices, who came into play only in the subsequent phase. That is, when “Pallone”, this was Raduano’s nickname, had moved for a few days to Bitti and then to the tent that hosted him for four months in the rugged countryside of Padru, where investigators found some elements that the arrested man had reported.
At that time Raduano had a cell phone at his disposal, probably introduced by the arrested prison officer of Siniscola, and that he had already used to organize the escape before the escape. Then the transfer to Corsica, with a parenthesis in Spain.
During the press conference in Nuoro, connected from Bari, the DDA prosecutor Francesco Giannella, underlined « the importance of collaboration between prosecutors and between law enforcement agencies of various territories, including Spanish colleagues on the occasion of the arrest of Gianluigi Troiano, Raduano's right-hand man», but he also highlighted «a combative criminal group that provided economic and logistical support to the Gargano mafia boss».
"Today's is an important investigative result," added Nuoro Police Chief Alfonso Polverino, "but the investigations are not closed. A lot of energy has been put into reconstructing the entire affair and we will continue to work along these lines."
