The single European number 116117 for non-urgent medical care also arrives in Sardinia. Areus has launched the new service and the experimentation has begun in the territory of the Asl Sulcis Iglesiente , the pilot health company of the regional project. The migration to other territories will be completed by 2025.
As explained by the general manager Simonetta Bettelini , «the launch was possible thanks to the collaboration guaranteed by the management of the Asl Sulcis Iglesiente and ARES, involved respectively at the level of the districts of Carbonia, Iglesias and islands that correspond to the telephone district 0781 and the ICT Department. From today, therefore, the user will have a single number to have a response to various non-urgent health needs».
Regional Health Councilor Armando Bartolazzi also expressed his satisfaction: «This initiative fits perfectly into the list of activities for the implementation and improvement of social and health services for citizens and operators on which the department has been actively working since day one». «Last September 5th – continues Bartolazzi – I met Areus, Ares and Asl Sulcis Iglesiente, appreciating the good work carried out in close synergy by the respective offices. The department is committed to promoting the extension of the service to the entire regional territory once the experimental phase is concluded».
"The activation of the number 116117 represents a turning point in territorial healthcare assistance", underlines the general director of ASL Sulcis Iglesiente Giuliana Campus . "By intercepting low-intensity demand as a priority, continuity of care is ensured in synergy with the numbers 112 - 118, the pillars of emergency care. As ASL Sulcis Iglesiente, we enthusiastically welcomed the role of the leading company in the project and we have taken steps to involve all the players in the system: medical guards, GPs, mayors of the territory through communication, information and training activities". As explained by the project manager Alessandro Bianchi , with the new service the user will be able to contact the 116117 Center "activated in Nuoro at the Areus headquarters, free of charge, 24 hours a day, every day. In the center, health workers and technicians, appropriately trained, will be able to direct callers to the most appropriate resource for professional and territorial competence". The aim is to ensure the most appropriate health care or advice for their needs by transferring calls to the Continuity of Care Doctors during service hours and, if necessary, to the 118 Center".
The advantages of the new service are all aimed at facilitating the population's access to local health and social services. The centralization of calls to the Continuity of Care Service is planned, by dialing 116117 (in the initial phase, the old number of the Ex Guardia Medica post can also be called). Non-urgent medical services and/or advice can be requested during the opening hours of the Continuity of Care service, and information can be requested on how to choose/revoke general practitioners and pediatricians of free choice.
