Knives are flying at the top of the Five Star Movement, with president and political leader Giuseppe Conte and founder and guarantor Beppe Grillo who have been bickering for days now about the future of the Five Star Movement, with visions that now appear divergent and irreconcilable.

"Accusing me of a bossy vision of the movement is nothing more than a mirror of the intentions of others. On the contrary, reiterating the importance of certain rules is equivalent to defending its democratic values," Grillo wrote in a letter addressed to Conte and published in Il Foglio.

"The reasons why an attempt is underway to demolish the democratic strongholds of the movement are well known, and certainly do not respond to its democratic values, but to the interests of a few," continues the letter, in which Grillo comments: "I reserve the right to evaluate what to do, possibly also submitting your threats to the competent organs of the Movement."

One of the accusations leveled by Conte against Grillo is precisely that of wanting to manage the M5S in a "boss-like" manner. The former prime minister even went so far as to threaten to take away the compensation the founder currently receives for communication.
