The investigations into the Natisone tragedy , which occurred on May 31, when two girls aged 21 and 23 and a 25-year-old boy (Patrizia Cormos, who repeatedly called for help, Bianca Doros and Cristian Casian Molnar) died when the river flooded, have been concluded .
This morning, the Udine Public Prosecutor's Office formalized in the investigation's conclusion the accusation of manslaughter against three Udine firefighters and a nurse from the FVG health operations room .
«The four operators, through concurrent negligent conduct, through incompetence, negligence and imprudence, caused the death of the three boys , surprised by a sudden flood, while they were on the bed of the Natisone river, which dragged them away and killed them by drowning».
The Prosecutor's Office analyzed the phases following the numerous phone calls made by Patrizia Cormos and focused on the communications between Sores Fvg and the firefighters of the Udine operations room, to verify compliance with the protocols.
None of the firefighters who, even heroically (one tried to reach them by swimming, risking his own life), tried to save the boys, are involved in the investigation .
The agony of the three young people lasted 41 minutes, enough time, the prosecution emphasizes, to send the helicopter equipped with a winch and take them to safety . Investigators certify that the first call for help was made by one of the victims at 13:29, while death by drowning occurred at approximately 14:10.
The key passage of the investigation is the one in which the three firefighters of the operations room are accused, in various capacities, of having "failed to immediately visualize the geographic coordinates of the place from which Patrizia Cormos had made the phone call at 1.29.42 pm, which was the bed of a river; consequently, they did not understand that, in relation to the point where the people who later died were located, the rescue operation should necessarily have been carried out with the aircraft closest to the point where the people to be rescued were located; they thus failed to promptly request from Sores Fvg the intervention on site of the 'Doppio India' helicopter , which took off only at about 2.07 pm and arrived on site at about 2.13 pm, when the boys had been dragged by the current for about 3 minutes".
