A hypogeal necropolis excavated in a limestone outcrop in the garden adjacent to the parish church of Sennori. The domus de janas is part of one of the 22 prehistoric sites nominated to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
On Thursday morning, in the council chamber of the Municipality of Sennori, an important technical roundtable was held, attended by the network of Sardinian municipalities belonging to the project “Art and Architecture in the Prehistory of Sardinia. The Domus de Janas” , carried out by the Identity and Memory Study Center (CeSIM Domus de Janas World Heritage) chaired by Giuseppa Tanda.
The municipal councilor with responsibility for Agriculture, agro, archaeology and civil protection Michele Soggia welcomed them.
The multicellular domus comprises 11 rooms connected to each other at a later time.
The first, older nucleus has a “T” plan and includes three rooms. The second, which was accessed via a dromos (corridor), is composed of a main cell from which several intermediate rooms open. Of great value is the rich decoration sculpted with horn-shaped motifs. In particular, in a cell called the “Room of the Protomi”, these appear repeated three times on a back wall, which in turn is sculpted with pilasters in relief.
