Battocletti bronze in the 5000m, but the podium lasts two hours: Kenya's appeal upheld
Kypyegon disqualified and readmitted, the Italian finishes fourthPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
A fourth place for Nadia Battocletti who becomes bronze due to the disqualification of the Kenyan Kypiegon, then rehabilitated on appeal after her second place in the race with silver. The Italian's podium lasts two hours, until the appeal jury's decision to accept the Kenya team's appeal which causes the Italian to slip back to fourth place. And the counter-appeal presented by the blue team is rejected.
It all happened in the women's 5,000 metres, where with an amazing race, complete with an Italian record, Nadia Battocletti remained in the wake of the Kenyans Chebet and Kypiegon and the Dutch Hassan and placed fourth. Shortly after the twist: the race judges noticed an exchange of blows on the straight of the penultimate lap between Kipyegon and Tsegay, probably the result not only of the excitement of the race but also of the eternal rivalry between Ethiopia and Kenya and established that the Ethiopian (who grimaces in pain) was certainly damaged and they disqualified Kipyegon who had finished in second place.
So Battocletti, who in the meantime is crying with joy for the placing and even just for fourth place, finds himself on the podium but slows down: «Let's wait for the outcome of the appeal, in the meantime I'll keep this race. I'm very happy with my race, my legs are spinning and if I feel good I'll aim to even do the ten thousand. I thank everyone who supports me."
Then the word passes to the 'World Athletics' jury, and the two-time European champion remains anxiously waiting. A wait that was resolved close to midnight and brought the Italian back to fourth place, giving the silver medal back to the Kenyan.
The final ranking is as follows: gold to the Kenyan Beatrice Chebet (14:28.56), silver to the Kenyan Faith Kipyegon (14:29.60), bronze to the Dutch Sifan Hassan (14:30.61). Nadia Battocletti "consoles herself" with the Italian record of 14:31.64.
For the rest everything as expected, in the sense that 'Mondo' Duplantis did not miss the victory in the pole vault , with the American Sam Kendricks now accustomed to second place and the surprising Greek Emmanouil Karalis taking away from the Filipino Ernest John He objects to the possibility of winning a bronze which would have been historic for those latitudes.
Spectacular, but also unexpected, was the victory of the British Keely Hodgkinson in the 800 meters where she blocked the way for the Africans, specifically Tsige Duguma and the Kenyan Mary Moraa. Closing with the 100 meter awards ceremony and nostalgia for Tokyo and Marcell Jacobs, who postponed his medical tests until today.
