Luigi Biggio, historic rais of Carloforte, has died.

Since '98 at the helm of the Piam Carloforte Tonnare crew, Biggio had become a symbol of tuna fishing which still exists in the Sulcis with the last two fixed traps in the Mediterranean.

Fifty-eight years old, from Portoscuso, the rais had begun his journey as a boy as a tuna boy, and then over the years earned the role of boat master and under rais.

In 1998 the Greco family, concessionaire of the Carloforte tuna factory, appointed him rais and since then his charismatic figure has been linked to tuna and the tuna factory, becoming one of their symbols.

He had been ill for some time but never stopped following the preparations for the upcoming fishing season.
