The Agents of the Cagliari Police Flying Squad arrested two men, aged 38 and 36, for improper use of payment cards and receiving stolen goods.

The alarm was triggered after a report from a citizen, who alerted the police that unknown persons, after breaking a window, had raided his parked car, taking away a wallet, cash and other personal effects. And that they had started using his ATM.

But the two perpetrators were soon tracked down: immediately after the theft they had in fact gone to a tobacconist's bar in Via San Michele to buy numerous packs of cigarettes , for a total cost of 60 euros, paid for using the card stolen from the car.

The agents only had to follow the "electronic traces" of the payment, locate the tobacconist and view the video surveillance images to identify the two thieves, faces already known to the police.

At that point the agents reached and blocked them, near Piazza San Michele, after among other things they had tried to make further purchases, although in vain, given that the cards had in the meantime been blocked by the owner.

Following the searches, the police then found 22 sealed packets of cigarettes, hidden inside the backpacks owned by the two, and also the stolen wallet.

Thus the arrest for both was inevitable.
