18-meter yacht on fire off Sarroch: two Sardinians rescued
Fire on board, vessel destroyed by flames. Firefighters and coast guard on siteAn 18-metre yacht caught fire in the sea of Perd'e Sali (Sarroch) , late this morning, 5 February.
On board were two 55-year-old Sardinians : they jumped into the water and were rescued by the CP320 patrol boat , alerted by the coast guard. The fire, which started in the engine room of the vessel , broke out while they were sailing, between Portoscuso and Capitana. The alarm was raised around 2:30 p.m., shortly after which the flames engulfed the boat. The column of smoke remained visible for a long time from the entire Gulf of Cagliari.
The rescue operations were coordinated by the Coast Guard, while the firefighters, with divers, put out the fire but it was not possible to prevent the boat from sinking. The two men, now safe and in good health, will disembark at the Capitaneria dock of the port of Cagliari. A Saras tugboat also provided support.
